Hola Shadi Season.

Hello,
How are you guys? It’s been a while since I wrote something on my blog, was tied up with a few things here and there but mostly wedding festivities of few of my family friends. Holiday season has officially begun and in India this season is less about Christmas and Happy Holidays but it’s more of a wedding season. Weddings are lined up during this season due to several reasons, number one of course holidays, then weather conditions, season’s best and fresh produces are available and the list is endless.

When we attend weddings we obviously want to look our best, we go best outfit hunting to jewelry shopping to that matching shoes and clutches. It’s like another reason for all us girls to shop but don’t we all go to the designer stores or our local masterji with references, and where are those references from?? Clearly from our Bollywood films.

Bollywood films have celebrated wedding in much more grandeur than any other festivals. Either the film has given us full on beat songs to tap on the sangeet ceremonies with our friends and families or maybe that perfect lehenga color inspiration and if nothing else then maybe it helps one decide the perfect D-day destination and the magnificent set up. Now days the wedding is captured not just as a video but, it’s captured and edited in a way to make a real style Bollywood inspired films. Don’t we all see those wedding films on our facebook feeds and why not someday we all wanted to be heroes of our life so what better than shadi to celebrate that.

Here is the list of top 5 films of recent times that took Indian shadis to a whole new level and surely gave us some serious goals for our own weddings.

      1. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

The super hit film not only gave us some major travel goals but also made all girls go wow with the second half of the film with the idea of modern destination wedding in the backdrop of traditional palaces and lakes and not to forget those fabulous outfits Kalki adorned as a bride and Deepika as a bridesmaid. From those stunning lehengas to suits to saris to sharara, we loved them all. Uff and weren’t all the girls crushing on Ranbir Kapoor for the Badtameez Dil performance in that Black suit and that flashy silver sequinced pathani for Dilliwali girlfriend. So this film is almost like a checklist before planning any wedding be it the songs for those performances or the destination and also most importantly the outfits.

            2. Aisha.

The film didn’t far well with box office collections and critics, but all the girls including me loved the film for the styling and fashion bit of the film. The girl gang game was surely strong in the film. Movie begins with Sonam in that perfect lilac lehenga she is wearing for her masi’s wedding and the setup is picturesque in an open farm house of Delhi and obviously movie ends with a wedding as well. It’s a traditional Mallu style shadi set up where all the girls are dressed up in those beautiful white and gold saris with gajras and traditional jewelry. Loved their foot tapping on Gal mithi mithi bol.

3. 2 States.

The film celebrates the beauty of traditional weddings and a union of two companions that belong to different religions, their love, their struggle and finally their marriage. There are two weddings in the film. One of Arjun's cousin which surely teaches us the lesson of no dowry and captures the funny aspect of those big fat Punjabi Indian weddings and the dance performance of Alia and Arjun on Iski Uski was fun. The second wedding of our hero and heroine is scenic with a beautiful temple in Chennai and that early morning sun. Its a marriage of Punjabi and Tamilian cultures. Alia’s red bridal outfit with all the traditional kanchipuram silk and gold borders was breath taking and our groom was no less first in the sherwani and loved the moment when he changes into the traditional silk kurta and lungi.

4.English Vinglish.

I know you’ll might be wondering why English Vinglish there is not much of wedding scenes happening in the film but I loved the film the way it captures the essence of traditions or Marathi “Lagna” in New York. Very few films have captured the traditions of Marathi film and this one was outstanding. From the journey of Ladoo maker in Pune to being an entrepreneur in NYC, didn’t we all enjoyed this fun journey created by Gauri Shinde. The wedding setup has been done in their backyard and loved the display of colors in the song Navrai maajhi laadachi the conventional Marathi song. Sridevi looked beyond words in that simple Red sari and that braid with the jewelry and those green glass choodiyaan. Simplicity was at it’s best in this one.

5.Hasee Toh Phasee.

This movie from beginning to end was all about weddings. From Sid meeting his love at a wedding to the present times where the essence of shadi is captured realistically from a week to go for the wedding. The typical mix of funny and weird relatives and guests to a patent tantrum pregnant bhabhi to helpful friends to that one wedding mad house where things get lost to countless wedding functions. It was an insight to a typical Indian shadi with a twist of Bollywood tadka and how much we loved that song where Parineeti, the gujju chokri in yellow lehenga sans the heavy make up and Punjabi munda in Red blue embroidered Kurta and salwar. LOVE…

So guys Happy wedding holidays full filmy style and stay tuned because this Wednesday I’ll be          sharing some fun pictures from the weddings I attended and also some cool shaadi outfit                      inspiration.

See you and have a great week ahead.

      Love,

      Cine Closet.
