Namastey London in Paris with Nudity.

The much awaited and talked about film is out in theatres finally and we all were super excited to see Aditya Chopra’s comeback after his legendary father Yash Chopra passed away and after he finally married the love of his life Rani Mukherjee. Vaani Kapoor was also going to be seen in the film after Shudh Desi Romance and Mr. Ranveer Singh was going to be seen as an outgoing besharam boy what he does the best in the beautiful city of Paris, what could possibly go wrong in all this?

Film opens up with people of all age and kind kissing all around the city of love, with the credits and cut to same old saga of a couple fighting like cats and dogs. Here comes Dharam (Ranveer Singh) and Shyra (Vaani Kapoor), so practically it’s a breakup, that’s so not expected from Mr.Chopra. Dharam is a stand up comedian in a random Indian club in Paris and Shyra is tourist guide with all the more outspoken and "main Indian nahi hu" attitude. Then there are flashes of past where we see how they met amidst all those dance moves and chicken wings and hooking up and loads of carefree dares and again more dancing. The story plays in past and present until Dharam and Shyra decide to be friends (CLICHÉD).

How can you forget the old Bollywood rule “Ek ladka aur ek ladki kabhi dost nahi hote”. With new friendship they welcome new lovers as well Anay (Not so boring Investment Banker) for Shyra and Christina (Hot Model) for Dharam. They take an impulsive decision of getting married and last but not the least super predictable Shyra and Dharam runaway from their own wedding after creating all the wreck. It was such a horribly shot scene, reminding me only of those chaotic Houseful series.

Music of the film is quite Blah and none of the songs one can listen to on repeat. The film surely becomes an overdose of random dares and too man dance sequences. Paris, the city of love is definitely not captured at its best. Costumes of the film are handled by a French designer and stylist Natalie Yuksel. It’s her first Bollywood film and she did the costumes for the complete cast.

Let’s begin with much talked about Shyra, who was seen in girl next door dressing, her past looks comprised of knotted tees and shorts to jersey dresses with parkas to leather pants and skirts. Her footwear was majorly a sneaker. Eventually her look slowly transitions to a little more mature clothing, which is like those classic Parisian styles a horizontal striped tees with short skirts and pants and those semi formal vertical striped shirts again paired with different bottoms. She was also scene sporting the aqua blue bikini for the holiday scene and surely didn't ooze out the oomph factor.

Her hair, which has burnt orange ends, also is chopped off with the transition. Her face surely has gone under the tools, although her make up was pretty minimal but surgeries were evident which almost made her look like a man in certain scenes. Coming to her a little more formal dressing, she was seen wearing a Navy lace gown and a red satin gown, of which both looked super tacky and cheap and what’s with that Indian outfit from Divani?? We all can be outrageous bride but one needs to be comfortable in the outfit, what’s with the super long slit of the ghagra and that messy choli with those sneakers and those creepy firang dancers in Cabaret costumes doing bhangara in the background. Nothing out of the lot works.

Dharam is a regular Delhi lad, but we don’t know from where is getting all the money to buy cool clothes and going for endless dates with all the possible girls. Anyways coming back to costumes, in the opening scene only we get a glimpse of Ranveer Singh in black tight fitted underwear, which leaves us with no imagination. His wardrobe comprises of regular crew neck tees in basic colors with anti fit jeans and sneakers again. There was layering with jackets, denim shirts, scarves and trenches.

He also wore Suits quite a few times and looked great, especially the Navy one for the engagement party. He definitely has his costume moments in Red playboy underwear or that Deadpool Bathrobe and not to mention a quick butt flash, which surely looked forced.

Supporting cast which comprised of Shyra’s parents, Dharam’s friend-Mehra, Anay, Christina and their friends. Everybody had his or her specific set of clothes. Parents who were also chef were seen in very clean and professional clothing, Dharam’s friend who is the owner of the Indian club is seen sporting a bowtie with his ordinary shirts and trousers. Anay being a banker had his Suit game strong and our Christina was all pumped up to look sexy.

But unfortunately nothing works for the film. Where are those romantic moments between the hero and heroine which all loved in DDLJ and Rab Ne Bana di Jodi. I know times are changing and we all are getting practical about our lives, but aren’t films meant to give us those fairytale goals and not reality checks of hooking up, boyfriends and breakups and commitments phobias. P.S- I don’t even get the reason for Shyra to be so troubled in life, she was decently rich, had supporting and loving parents and was living in Paris, I mean what else does a girl want?

Poor Script for sure and definitely a waste of all the effort put in by everyone for months till then

Happy Sundays.

Love,

Cine Closet.
