RAEES YA KAABIL?

January had a gap in between with no movies for entertainement, after Ok Jaanu and XXX, I was seriously disheartened but had a ray of hope with Kaabil and Raees. On my Vlog you’ll saw that I was pretty excited and gave you’ll a quick overview of the film. So for the first time I’ll write about two films together.

Since I saw Rahul Dholakia’s Raees first so let’s begin with that, after Dear Zindagi, King Khan who is not much of a king anymore return to the big screen in the role of “Baniye ka dimaag aur Miyaabhai ki Daring.” All those heavy dialogues in the film had us excited that the hero who had given us films like Darr and Baazigar in the hard hitting negative roles was back with a bang. Begins with the reality check of the condition of Gujarat, with the complete gang of people selling illegal daaru.

So that’s our hero’s Dhanda, which he proudly does it, but oops ammijaan tells him the rules with a condition of Dhanda “tab tak sahi hai jab tak kuch bura aur nuksaan na ho”, I mean seriously? Doesn’t alcohol lead you to so many many nuksaans. But theek hai apna hi dhanda hai toh lets twist our rules. So between all these rules it’s really difficult to connect for the fact that is the character negative or positive. Mahira Khan plays his wife cum politician partner wife who is also super supportive in husband’s dhanda. Nawazzudin plays the creepy cop ACP Majmudar, who is kind of obsessed with Raees and Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub plays, the role of Sadiq who is Raees’s childhood friend and right hand. Essence of Gujarat and locales is very hazily captured and nothing out of the way to view through the DOP K.U Mohanan’s lenses. I only like Zaalima as the song in the film but again it comes so abruptly in the film that you don’t like it anymore. Sheetal Sharma has done costumes for the film.

On the other hand Sanjay Gupta’s Kaabil had given us a major reveal of the story in the trailer, so the knowledge of actions was pretty predictable. Hrithik plays the role of Rohan and Yami Gautam his love interest Supriya, both are visually challenged but are they Kaabil enough to take care of each other under these circumstances is a question? Which clearly they were not, the movie tries really hard to hit you but fails to do so because the script feels incomplete, there is so much more you want to know but you don’t know, you want questions to be answered but disappointed.

Roy brothers are the baddies and have powerful political backgrounds. Suresh Menon is seen in the role of Rohan’s friend who seems to be very helpful but where was all this help when he actually needed it. Anybody and everybody could enter Rohan and Supriya’s house randomly. CREEPED OUT next level. Sudeep Chatterjee fails to capture those emotions well and certain Mumbai street shot scenes look so artificial, where Rohan proposes to Supriya and was anyways never a fan of the film’s music except for the background score, which was used well in the film scenes. Karishma Acharya has styled the characters in the movie.

The films not just shared the same release dates but surely there were much more to it, here is the list of five things Kaabil and Raees surely taught us.

1.Hero andha ho ya battery, he can do anything.
Our battery hero in Raees who doesn’t like to be called battery, initially is seen in Cordouy and Denim shirts with boot legged pants with Surma clad eyes and Retro glasses. Later shifting to Pathanis and Kheris hates to be called Battery. Call him battery and he will turn your world upside down, with insane action and ruthless killing. And our Rohan from Kaabil who is visually challenged but is wearing the perfectly fitted jeans and tight t-shirts with that HRX bag pack and uff that hair is toh so well set, he is wearing Dolce and Gabbana shoes. Chalo one wants to assume that they are fake, but you don’t get Dolce fake shoes in India. Oh so this is not it, he still has super powers from Jaadu and can magically do anything, can mimic voices, fight the powerful and fit guys and dust them to death. Too hard to believe. But Bollywood hai.

2.No reality checks for our heroines.
Mahira Khan in Raees is seen is pretty Salwar kameezes and jewellery, firstly which don’t even belong to that era and looks like current fashion and oops in that small chawl of Fatehpura her hair is so well curled and is flying in the air, seriously? and wait there is more Yami Gautam who is visually challenged and needs to protect herself and take care is seen in dresses and again well set hair with overload of blush flush on her cheeks and what on earth was she thinking when she agrees to Rohan to get those heeled boots,  I mean where is the logic?

3. India ki police corrupt hai and is controlled by the politicians totally.
Indian police which we think protects us and is up against the crime, is kind of contradictory, both the films prove us that Indian cops are not to be trusted, and even if galti se the cop wants to help the aam janta out, its impossible for them to do so because of Political pressure. Nawazzudin Siddique is literally the only good cop in the whole police force and he thinks he can change the world. One question why on earth was he wearing sweaters? It’s not cold in Gujarat and even if it is then why everyone else is not wearing them? When the cops want to help out minister or corporater in starchy kurtas and khadi jackets like Ronit Roy will just make one call or send gundas and our Indian police can’t do anything. What a reality check for the masses.

4.  But wait, if cops can’t do anything our heroes totally can, they will be the superhero and go save the world or kill the world.
When SRK tries to explain it to the cops nobody hears him out and he takes charge of killing people, chalo lets be a ruthless killer because revenge is everything. Similarly Rohan also does the same, dying to take revenge with his wife’s rapists can’t be bothered but is getting innocents also involved and hurt. Bollywood heroes don’t care because revenge is everything and again they are so cool, they don’t leave any proof for the cops to catch them. AWESOME.

5. Last but not the least, any film now a days is so not complete without an item number or a remake of an old song!
Villains earn their money by all the bad means and then they go to to the clubs to burn all that             cash. Be it 1980 or 2017, there were always bars with busty girls with very little clothes grooving       on songs while our villains go on increasing their Peg size of their drinks. Sunny Leone dances on       Laila main Laila in that tight fitted choli and those sparkly eyeshadows and Urvashi is our modern       girl so she is in corsets and hot shorts with those insane dance moves for what?

Both the movies bombed, and if you are contemplating which one to watch then I would suggest none. The question is should we just stop expecting from Bollywood?

Anyways guy’s Happy weekends and let’s not leave hopes since Umeed pe Duniya kayaam hai.

Love,

Cine Closet.
