Choli Ke Neeche Kya hai.
Mirzya definitely struck a chord with me for not just scenic frames or Music or the lighting but also for that stunning bright red lehenga Saiyami sported in the film. Her wedding outfit in which she of course doesn't get married had its inspiration from traditional conservative yet classy Rajwada or Rajput as you call it. The best thing for me in that lehenga was seeing the long choli style sans the mid riff show back on our silver screen. This trend had almost faded away from our Cinema which was quite a rage in 90's and 2000's.
That outfit definitely took me back in time, thinking about few of the best lehengas our Actresses adorned in the films be it the role of bride or bridesmaid or just some function or event in the film. Let me quickly remind you of 10 best Lehengas with Long Cholis our favourite bollywood divas wore in our favourite films.
1. Madhuri Dixit in Hum Aapke Hai Kaun (1994).
Be it her green choli and white lehenga outfit for her sister's wedding or her gold lehenga for her own wedding in the film, Madhuri looked like a perfect Indian beauty in those outfits. My favourite out of the two was definitey the green and white outfit not just for the cool Choli style which literally Sabyasachi one of the top designers of India has in its collection every season but also for the unusual color combination of that leaf green color with Stark white.

2. Kajol in DDLJ (1995).
How can we forget that parrot green Sangeet outfit of Kajol she wore in the song Mehndi Laga ke Rakhna sitting on that Manji with her cousins like a traditional shy bride to be. Even though she wore that long choli with the Lungi instead of the Lehenga she definitely looked like a cool punjabi bride to be. Not to forget to mention her infamous good lehenga she wore in our favourite scene " Jaa Simran Jaa Jee Le Apni Zindagi". The bride running in that gold lamee lehenga just trying to catch the train, uff what a filmy moment.
3. Kajol in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998).
I guess Kajol and Karan Johar both knew it right how much the audience loved their Simran in her gold lehenga, they made sure Kajol adorned gold lehengas in her Sangeet cum Sagai and her Controversial Shaadi scene, I think she looked stunning in both!
4. Karisma Kapoor in Zubeidaa (2001).
The muslim actress falling in love with a Rajput Prince (Manoj Bajpayee) which turns out to be her second marriage and also the Prince's second marriage whose first wife is Rekha won accolades for the story and everybody's performances in the film. There is one scene in which Rekha and Karisma are dressed up as traditional Rajputana Beendnis that's what they call it I guess. Karisma looked strikingly beautiful dancing on the traditional beats.
Somehow looks like Mirzya's costume designer definitely took inspiration from Karisma's outfit in the film for Saiyami.
5. Kajol in Kabhi Khushi Gham (2001).
Even though the limelight was on Kareena in the bole choodiyan song in the film. But we couldn't take our eyes off the pretty Kajol in that Karwa Chauth song wearing her Gold Long Choli this time with hints of Red.
6. Preity Zinta in Veer-Zaara (2004.)
When it comes to Yash Chopra the heroine has to wear white, Preity Zinta who plays the role of a muslim girl wore white Short Kurti choli and dupatta with a Green Ghagra and accents of Purple for her Engagement scene was Mashallah.
7. Rani Mukherji in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (2006).
The film opens with a wedding scene and Rani Mukherji made her impact in that beautiful Red Lehenga with that gold zardosi embroidery and accents of Emerald green against the background of Green Lawns, every bride wanted to wear that outfit on her D-day for sure.
8. Deepika Padukone in Om Shanti Om (2007).
Debutant Deepika's opening scene (Ankhon mein teri) in the film in that bright pink outfit with that jewelry, bouffant and that retro makeup stopped every man's heartbeat for split second in the cinema hall.
9. Kareena Kapoor in 3 Idiots (2009).
Like her pretty sister Karisma , Kareena also looked pretty yet edgy in her deep red and burnt orange lehenga riding that scooter in the scenic view of Ladakh. Love Love Loved her Long panelled Choli with that Lehenga and traditional dull gold Jewelry.
10. Kangana Ranaut in Tanu Weds Manu (2011).
How cute was the scene when she goes shopping with Madhavan for her wedding lehenga and he chooses the off-beat Green Lehenga instead of the red one. It clearly got out her Rebel attitude in the film.
My sister wore this cream long choli and lehenga from fabindia for last Diwali with a colorful Leheriya Gotta Dupatta which was a great contrast.Sharing those pictures with you'll.
These Lehengas are perfect for all body types and will work for almost all traditional weddings or functions.Wish we see more of this trend on silver screen.
