Shake it like Shammi.

Hello Guys, firstly I am extremely sorry for not posting anything on last Sunday, have been working on something super cool about which will share it with you’ll soon. Coming back, its almost the end of October, our facebook feeds are either filled with Festive ads or the controversies about upcoming Bollywood films and not to mention the very controversial birthdays of two Bollywood legends Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha. Every year in October during their Birthdays we have posts about their best movies, style moments, gossips and blah blah blah, list is endless, I don’t how they manage to get content every year for the two same people?? You wont believe even my mom suggested that it’s Amitabh and Rekha’s Birthday month you should do a post about them.

But folks October is not just about these two Bollywood icon’s Birthdays, there is one more Bollywood Icon who was born in this month, i.e 21st October and surely gave us some unique style moments, which we never highlight or talk about, none other than our very own Rock and Roll Hero- Shammi Kapoor.

Shamsher Raj “Shammi” Kapoor was the son of Prithviraj Kapoor, part of the super huge Kapoor Khandaan of Bollywood. He started his acting career as a mere junior artist in his father’s theatrical company and eventually moved on to the world of Hindi cinema. Although his first few films failed and was literally struggling to make his mark in the film industry, during that phase he fell in love with a hit actress Geeta Bali, eventually leading to marriage and then two children. The responsibility of family and constant failure in Bollywood, had almost led Shammi Kapoor to take up some job in Assam, but destiny had some other plans for him.

His new look sans moustache and that Elvis Presley inspired hairstyle in the film “Tumsa Nahi Dekha” surely won audiences hearts and did well at box-office. After that there was no looking back for him until his wife passed away because of Small pox. After a long break from Bollywood he returned back to complete his film Teesri Manzil. He continued to give hits and eventually got married to Neila Devi and slowly started to move away from cinema. He also directed two films, which didn’t do great at box office. His last movie was Rockstar with his great nephew Ranbir Kapoor.

In the era of Slow motion songs and non-motion heroism he got a different energy in his films, almost like a rebel. From those natural twist moves to Flashy Tuxedo Suits to his famous YAHOOOOO to dancing in shikara in Kashmir, he was a full package in the films.

Guys if you’ll love old songs or no, but his these top 10 songs will surely make you go gaga over the melodious music and lyrics and if not music but his cool style will surely inspire you. Ps- Don’t bother about the numbering because all are my favourite songs.

1.Tumne Mujhe Dekha
2. O Mere Sona Re
3. Badan Pe Sitare Lapete Hue
4. Akele Akele Kaha Jaa Rahe Ho
5. Baar Baar Dekho
6. Ye Chaand Sa Roshan Chehra
7. Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyaar
8. Dil Deke Dekho
9. Oh Haseena Zulfon Wali
10. Tumse Acha Kaun Hai

His fashion certainly stood out for masses. From his super cool Bomber Jackets which are back in trend currently especially with those elbow patchwork, being on the chubbier side, he knew how to make it all work.

Shammiji's love for color red was pretty much evident in his clothes. I think he is one of the very few men or heroes who bought red in men’s wardrobes and made it look so good with those apple red cheeks.

His style surely had influence from west; love love loved those cool printed neck scarves, mixed and matched with checked shirts, V-neck button down cardigans and knits.

Last but not the least his flashy jacquard silk Tuxedo Jackets with bow ties, we all go like oh that’s Ranveer Singh style whenever we see those in designer stores but actually Shammi Kapoor created that trend and people went crazy for that Rock and Roll trend, now we know where Ranveer Singh's Tuxedo style is inspired from.

I surely miss that energy and style statements in films, which has almost faded away now. Will definitely come up with a post on how you guys can create his style in your boring regular wardrobe, till then enjoy the list of songs.

Love,

Cine Closet.
