Inspiring AKIRA.

Hey guys I guess you had a great weekend and all my Maharashtra people are in the festive mood of Ganesh Chaturthi. Ps-I am already dreaming of the coming weekend and busy making plans for it.

But All this while I have only been thinking and discussing with my sister what could have actually saved the movie?????? But not knowing much about the technical and screenplay point of view couldn’t come up with a considerable solution except for the costumes part for our AKIRA!

I know she spent 3 years of her life in Jail but just making her wear deeper tones wont give any layer or depth to the character. Actually as opposed to that I felt she was very calm , mature , smart and a strong woman in the film who helped others. The color story of Akira's costumes were majorly dark and deep tones like navy, blacks, grays, deep reds and browns. I wish she had more muted and brighter colors in her style palette and her mood and anger came out actually from her actions and not deep kohl eyes and wavy untied hair which almost covered her one eye.

Cine Closet is all about fashion in films but what do we do when there is a miss in the costumes of a film.We try and attempt to create a few looks that would have actually made sense in the movie and girls like us could have actually taken inspiration from.

So Guys this post is dedicated to all our heroine lovers who actually follow her personal style and would have loved to embrace her film style but unfortunately couldn’t.

Before styling or designing for a film or an ad shoot or my friend I always prefer to create a mood board for it. PS- Mood board is basically love for all the thoughts and ideas that compile together to get the best of you. Ok so getting back to the point I created a mood board for the character Akira that I personally thought would have made a greater impact as a character on the audience still keeping it practical.

Inspired by the mood board I have compiled 3 combinations, which are not very complex as girls like you and me always have these basic separates in our wardrobes.

1.The Basics.
So I tried to create the first look with the very basic black tee and Linen Pants, Black which always makes you look slimmer and always our favorite. Although I attempted the pants with a roll-up so its not mopping around the floor. Simple silver pendant necklace instead of a big ass one and fuss free without the rings and too many accessories but a simple black leather strapped watch. Come on who wants rings falling and bangles breaking while giving those punches to the goons?? Hair tied up and no Smudged Kohl all around my eyes. Ps- got rid of the Patchwork jhola and replaced it with my regular crochet bag! The most important thing that makes the whole character stronger are the SHOES! Sneakers are in rage worldwide then why not use them here. Of course I remember our Akira is from Jodhpur that's why no fancy vans or steve madden slip ons only basic adidas sneakers. Lets be practical, sneakers instead of mojris and strappy sandals are always better and super duper comfy while doing those dhoom-punch-owww scenes.

2.The Grunge Kurta.
Then I thought maybe our AKIRA is not that modern girl who wants to wear fitted t-shirts. So went back to styling it with Leggings (which were extremely comfortable for Akira as she only wore that as the bottoms in the film). But instead of Pairing it with that ethnic block print Pushkar mela kurtas, Paired them with a long Tartan checked shirt Tunic. Which almost looks like a kurta but not so traditional giving a sense of Grunge and rebel to the character in the film. The basic accessories and shoes are the same for this look as well but changed the bag to a vintage leather bag.

3.The naive look

Last but not the least taking our grunge Kurta one notch lower by replacing it with the simple muted color Kurta with a chinese collar. The color pops out more instead of the regular deep kurtas and are summer friendly for the heat of either Jodhpur or Mumbai.

Wish we saw AKIRA as a girl we could all relate to and idolize instead of just a mere caricaturish character in the film.

Do comment below , which look would have worked the best for Akira and you would love to try for the Heated Summers in your city.
