Nine Shades of Navratri.

Our Bollywood loves celebrating festivals in the film. Be it Diwali, Holi, Lohri, Eid or Navratri, with all its opulence and grandeur Bollywood has never failed to give us songs to groove on during these festivals! The lavish sets, beautiful music and vibrant costumes in the films always inspire us during our festivities. With just one week left to worship the Hindu goddess Ma Durga and hitting on the dance floor for nine nights, let me remind you of the top five films that portrayed India’s most vibrant and high on energy festival of Navratri.
RAM LEELA
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s second film set on the backdrop of Gujarat’s culture, starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, gave us our hit number Nagade sang dhol baje. Deepika doesn’t fail to leave an impact in that flared bright red ghagra and those dance steps on those beats were faultless.

KAI PO CHE
Abhishek Kapoor adapted the film’s story from Chetan Bhagat’s Novel Three mistake of my life.  The film set in Gujrat of course had to give us a dandiya number! Shubhaarambh in the film has some beautiful glimpses of dandiya moves.

HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM
Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai in this film shared an electric chemistry. We all not just fell for aish’s bright-mirrored costumes in the film but also our superhit dandiya song- Dhole taro Dhol Baje. I guess its one of the most played songs during dandiya or garba and we all love it!

LAGAAN
Set during the era of pre-independence, Ashutosh Gowarikar’s film was a super-hit among the masses in the country. Aamir khan looked super cute tapping his feet on melodious song Radhe Kaise Na Jale along with Gracy Singh. The song definitely captured their raw and innocent romance.

SUHAAG

Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha’s well co-ordinated dandiya raas definitely ensures that the devotional track from Suhaag, O sheronwali leaves a mark. Almost thirty-seven years old and the song is still going strong in all our navratri mandals.

Of course Navratri is all about the garbas and dandiyas, but what about the costumes we all wear during those nine days of dandiya raas that makes the festival all the more vibrant and brighter. Every year we face the same problem, 9 nights of dancing but what to wear?? Mixing matching reuses few outfits and few are bought new. Every time the budget goes for a toss while shopping for these festivals. But this time you’ll wont have to burn big holes in your pockets.

I have already introduced you'll to my sister Sukhmani, let me introduce you'll to my friend who helped me with this shoot- Ajay Kaloya. He is a celebrity hairstylist to our favorite bollywood stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Pritam etc and one of the funniest guys I've ever met!

I have compiled some stylish and edgy Navratri looks for all you girls with some basics in my wardrobe and a few uncomplicated looks for boys as well which will definitely help you save some bucks!

Tie up your bright colored scarf or a dupatta like a choli and pair them with sharara palazzos instead of old school ghagra for easy and comfort look. Pair it with mojris, some non-conventional jewelry instead of regular bangles and you have created an edgy dandiya outfit for yourself.

Girls if you'll don't want to ditch your traditional ghagras for your swirls and twirls for dandiya raas and yet want to be at ease, try out this look! With Off-shoulder being one of the major trends , I paired my traditional ghagra with a Black off-shoulder t-shirt , so don't have to worry about my choli shifting away from places and its black so will give a slimming look of course. Tied my hair in a bun, keeping my accessories minimal just wore jhumkas and an embellished hairband so don't have to stress about my hair flying while I am dancing!

Boys since I brought Pathani trend to your notice in my last post, I have tried to create a very simple look with these separates. Teamed a bright tangerine Cotton Kurta with a black salwar and these slip on Vans instead of Mojris or Sandals, as I know all you boys want to be at ease and look the best during these nine days. You can add on a striped or a checked scarf for a contemporary look.

This look is definitely a mix of elegance and grunge, basic white shirt knotted and worn with black high waisted leggings. Slipped on a bright pink tulle skirt which is super light in weight and twirls beautifully, not like those heavy over the top ghagras. Perfect for those heated dandiya sessions.

Boys if pathani is not your scene then I have pulled out another trend for you, the color trend of the season; Ice Blue! Pair your regular white kurta with an ice blue nehru jacket and slip on your favorite jeans and you are all set for the Navratri. The pop of a not so bright color will definitely give you brownie points and turn heads during this season of Dandiya Raas.

Mix and matched my old crushed cotton bandhni skirt with the green kurta and a bright colored dupatta for an all new fresh look. Managed to create a traditional yet trendy look from these separates from my old outfits.Tied my hair into a braid and slipped into mojris for those groovy dance moves.

Mix and match your separates from the closet to create these simple styles to make a statement at this time's Dandiya Raas. Happy Dancing!

Love,
Cine Closet.
