Baar Baar Mat Dekho.
Hey folks, I know your Saturday was fabulous.
Its Sunday already and tomorrow we will all be getting back to our super crazy
week. My favorite part about Sundays is lazing around, reading a few
interesting articles, its almost like the whole week’s detox day for me.
My Half Saturday was dedicated to Baar Baar Dekho and rest half I just spent thinking about the film.

I am sure dozens of reviews have already been
written and 80 percent of them begin with oh Baar Baar Dekho is a film about
two people in love and how they travel in time. But nah it’s not just that,
there is more to time travel and two lovers, it’s all in a loop. The film marks
the directorial debut of director Nitya Mehra. It begins in two different
continents, with our very own hero and heroine, Siddharth Malhotra(JAY) and
Katrina Kaif(DIYA), one from India and of course the latter from England with a
firang mother( Obviously to justify her accent and features.)Their paths meet
at the age of eight and since then they are inseparable. They both have
different dreams to follow, Diya an artist and Jay is passionate about Vedic
Mathematics. Diya proposes Jay, he agrees upon the idea after little
questioning and they lived happily ever after.
No wait not that easy here comes Mr. Ram
Kapoor our loud, flashy and patent Punjabi father who wants snow in his
daughter’s wedding. Trying too hard to be funny but fails to create any impact.
Instead of amusing it ends up looking forced. What could go wrong in this
perfect picture Punjabi Shadi, unless our groom wants to chicken out of it one
day before the wedding? The Random panditji scares the hell out of very logical
Jay and plays the role of teaching him the lesson about “Life is all about
small moments”. For which our hero has to travel in time back and forth, so
lucky or not so lucky! From 20s (honeymoon) to 30s to 60s(being lonely) with
all the most confused expression. Both the characters fail to connect
emotionally with the audience through out the movie. How much ever all of us
want to believe it, the script just doesn’t let us believe it. Both are only fighting
and arguing like a couple next-door, no exceptional romantic moments in the
film at all to spark the chemistry between the two. Jay wakes up in the future
with a song ready for him every time. Although I have somehow fallen for the
music for the film especially the song “Kho gaye hum kaha”, you guys should
hear it if you’ll haven’t heard it yet. Anyways coming back to the film there is
not much to look forward to except for some beautiful locations shot by Ravi. K
Chandran ISC.
Being a time traveling script costumes played
a major role in this one. Arjun Bhasin and Poornamrita Singh did costumes for
the film. We see Jay and Diya as babies to 60 year olds so there are Costume
and look transitions all the way along which are not noteworthy at all.
Diya’s costumes were “ABS”olutely Abs
friendly. From her wedding outfits to her honeymoon outfits, the first half of
the film focuses majorly on her mid-riff and not her acting skills or
expressions. She is seen wearing very regular fashion in her 20’s in the film
like regular crochet crop tops, off-shoulder tops, bright t-shirts, Boho tasseled printed capes
with denim shorts and sneakers which are all the current trends and styles. How
can I forget to mention the much-hyped not so sexy Bright Coral colored
Cutout monokini, which Diya is seen donning on the beach with her hubby Jay on
their honeymoon! Sadly her wedding functions outfits in the film also fail to
stand out, like when I saw them I didn’t go like how stunning is that lehenga,
I want to make one for myself for one of the upcoming wedding. Only one thing
that actually stood out for me was that her outfits were paired with beautiful
silver jewelry instead of those grunge chokers or gold metallic jewelry, which
subtly made the look lift up a bit.
Being a
Mathematics Professor we see Jay in regular Checked Shirts, Jeans and Chinos
with not much scope of experimentation. For the wedding scenes he is seen in
Cotton Chikan Kurtas and Pajamas with some Pin tucked Bandis. Loved those Ice
Blues and Navies great inspiration for groom and groom’s friends for summer
weddings. But the funniest part is that the wedding is in Delhi in like second
week of Feb, which is like winter season and none of them are seen in Jacket or
Sweater or Shawl or a scarf??? It seems to be a nice summer boho wedding. But
people anything can happen in our Bollywood. He sports bright colored printed shirts
with rolled up jeans and joggers in the Honeymoon Leap in Thailand going with
the beachy mood. Nevertheless then we jump 2 years forward where Diya and Jay
are almost going to be parents, scene being majorly shot in hospital there is
nothing much to talk about the fashion there. The style graph drops down more just
like the story in second half of the film.
Leaping
straight to almost late 40’s where we see futuristic gadgets and screens, which
are extremely senseless. Jay and Diya’s son Arjun had my major attention with
the funniest futuristic blue streaked fringe hair. Diya is in a regular sheath dress
with a trench coat, which proves a no risk move. Jay’s costumes in the second
half also remain quite flat just like his expressions. The old school Bomber
Baseball jacket, textured trousers, Fleece checkered Blazers were almost like
what men actually wear in 2016 in London or Scotland. Jumping to 60’s, which portrayed
the color story of Greys, with almost everybody wearing greys and blacks also
being a Funeral scene. Rest of the cast is seen in a very regular costumes be
it wedding’s saris and Kurta Pajamas or the Regular Outfits between the leaps
in the film. I am sure we were all excited to see our Kat and Sid in some major
transformations, but except for the forged prosthetics there are no
awe-inspiring changes in the movie. It ends with the much-awaited song Kaala
Chashma that is the wedding song. How much ever we love the moves of the song
but that song is totally nonsense. Suddenly our heroine changes from a
traditional shadi ka joda to that dancing costume and a kaala chashma.
So all those Katrina and Siddharth Malhotra
fans even though you’ll eagerly waited for this film but the only suggestion I
would love to make is “BAAR BAAR MAT DEKHO!”
Do share your views with me and till then have
a great week ahead.
